West EP Residents Lose Power, Storm Blamed

EL PASO, Tx. – A strong, pre-dawn storm is blamed for knocking power out to portions of west El Paso Tuesday morning.

Officials tell ABC-7 that a transformer caught fire around 4:30 Tuesday morning, near the intersection of Redd Road and Doniphan Drive.

The outage forced the El Paso Police Department to dispatch officers for traffic control. El Paso Electric (EPE) crews arrived a short time later and began repairs to the damaged transformer.

EPE Officials said nearly 2000 residents around the area were hit by the outage. Power was restored to most of the area shortly after 7am.
