John is a native Texan, born in Austin. His father was in the U.S. Army, and the family moved often. He lived in Alaska and Oklahoma before his father retired in El Paso. John is the sixth of seven children, and is the only one who still resides in El Paso. He graduated from Eastwood High School, and earned a BA in Broadcast Production from UTEP. John was hired at KVIA while interning here in 1986. In 1991, he moved to Los Angeles to try his hand at freelance production work for KCAL-TV. He returned to El Paso the following year, and came home to KVIA to work in Master Control and Engineering. He moved on to Creative Services as an editor for commercial production, and has been Director of Creative Services since 1997.

John has one daughter, who has encouraged him to become a proficient skater in order to keep up with her. He enjoys writing, playing guitar and performing. He plays in a couple of local bands, and also sings and plays at his church. In addition to music, John enjoys reading and traveling.

One thing he says would really surprise people about him is that he is a shy person. John whistles, sings, jokes and says hi to everyone here at the station, and says, ??I have to put my shyness aside, and move at the pace of the environment.?�
