Texas Tech Renames Institute After First Lady

AMARILLO, TX. (AP) – Texas Tech officials today announced they’re renaming the women’s health institute after first lady Laura Bush.

The institute’s name will now be the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health. Bush, who grew up in Midland and whose father attended Tech in 1932, is expected to attend an official renaming event sometime this fall.

Tech chancellor Kent Hance made the announcement in Amarillo. The institute was established in Amarillo in 2000 and expanded in 2006 to include campuses El Paso, Lubbock, the Permian Basin and Abilene.
