UNM Bookstore Theft Cases Closed

ALBUQUERQUE, NM.(AP) – Cases against 10 people indicted in connection with thefts from the University of New Mexico bookstore are over.

Charges were droPped against seven of them after they were accepted into a preprosecution probation program. The other three — 28-year-old William Swink and 24-year-old brothers Christopher and Richard Dencklau — reached agreements with prosecutors and each pleaded guilty to a single count of embezzlement over $20,000.

Assistant District Attorney Chris Schultz said everyone is being required to pay restitution. Dean of students Randy Boeglin says the school is seeking $26,000 in restitution. He says, however, the loss was probably higher.
