Two More Cases Of West Nile Confirmed In New Mexico
SANTA FE, N.M.(AP) – A New Mexico man and woman have been diagnosed with West Nile virus infections.
The state Department of Health says the 40-year-old man is from San Juan County and the 59-year-old woman is from Bernalillo County. The agency says they contracted the less severe West Nile fever and were not hospitalized. The department has confirmed mosquito-borne West Nile virus infections in six New Mexicans so far this year.
A Chaves County woman remains hospitalized, and the others have returned home. State epidemiologist Mack Sewell says mosquito populations remain high in many parts of the state. He urges people to use repellents when outdoors, especially during the evening and early morning when mosquitoes are most active.
