Bullet Goes Into Control Room At Houston Radio Station

HOUSTON, TX.(AP) – Authorities say a drive-by shooting today broke windows and damaged the control room at a Houston radio station.

Nobody was hurt in the predawn gunfire targeting KPFT-FM. So far no arrests. Program director Ernesto Aguilar told The Associated Press that Houston police have retrieved a shell found in the street. The station’s Web site carries the motto: “Radio for Peace.”

Aguilar says KPFT has had instances where people disagree with a program or a topic — and he thinks that’s likely what happened with the gunfire. But Aguilar says Zydecomusic was on at the time and he doesn’t think the shooting was directed at that particular program or any individual. He says KPFT is a listener-funded station with an “eclectic” format, ranging from liberal talk to Afro-centric to punk rock to gay and lesbian programming.
