More Human West Nile Virus Cases Reported In EP
EL PASO, TX. – The El Paso City-County Health and Environmental District today confirms the diagnosis of two more human West Nile Virus cases.
The first case is a 55-year-old Hispanic female. Her onset of symptoms was on August 3. She was admitted to a local hospital on August 5 and was released on August 9. The woman lives in the 79902 zip code near Downtown El Paso.
The second case is a 47-year-old Hispanic woman from the Sparks area of the County. She had an onset of symptoms on August 4 and was admitted to a local hospital on August 8. The woman remains hospitalized.
This brings the total of human WNV cases reported in El Paso to three (3).
Mosquitoes collected on August 7 were found to be positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). Confirmation was received August 13 from the Texas Department of State Health Services Laboratory in Austin that Culex Tarsalis mosquito specimens collected from a light trap set up on Socorro Road in San Elizario tested positive for West Nile Virus.
Vector Control has intensified fogging in the San Elizario and Sparks areas of the County and also in the 79902 zip code area.
