Report Reveals Thousands Of Dollars Misused At NMSU

LAS CRUCES, NM – Partial results of an external audit reviewing fraud allegations at New Mexico State University suggest hundreds of thousands of dollars may have been misused.

Last April, several employees at NMSU’s Office of Facilities and Services were put on paid leave after allegations of misconduct and misused funds came to light.

“We do not hide our mistakes and we do not hide allegations,” stated Christina Chavez, the Senior Assistant to the president at the University.

According to Chavez, much of the misused funds were a result of time card inaccuracy and excessive use of overtime by the staff at the Office of Facilities and Services, she said.

Four employees were put on paid leave during the investigation and no one has been fired yet, said Chavez, who will now head a task force that will prevent incidents like these from happening again.
