EPFD Battles Major Fire In Northeast El Paso
EL PASO, TX. – The El Paso Fire Departmentbattleda large blaze Thursday morning in Northeast El Paso.
Lt. Mario Hernandez of the El Paso Fire Marshall’s Office said a Condition 3 fire broke out shortly after 8:30 Thursday morning along the 4300block of Dyer.Condition 3 indicates that flames are clearly visible from outside the structure. At the height of the battle, 20 fire units were on the scene, as well as several El Paso Police units for traffic control.
Fire officials tell ABC-7 that the fire was reported by a passer-by, as the flames erupted from under the roof.
Crews battled the blaze the inside of the building, as well as from the roof. ABC-7 monitoringfire departmentradio transmissions found that crews had to be pulled from the roof, as it became more unstable.
Lt. Hernandez went on to say that the cause of the fire had been determined to be a fan used to cool a refrigeration condenser that overheated and ignited nearby debris. The total estimate of damage to both building and contents was approximately $250,000 dollars. Though there were no injuries reported, the owner of the business was cited for using extension cords as permanent wiring.
