Man Agrees To Plea Deal In Shootings At Deming Wal-Mart
DEMING, N.M. (AP) – A man accused of shooting and wounding a 4-year-old girl and a man in a Deming Wal-Mart has accepted a plea agreement.
Twenty-six-year-old Vincent Cantone appeared yesterday before state District Judge Gary Jeffreys.
Cantone has agreed to plead guilty to abandonment or abuse of a child, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, transportation or possession of a firearm by a felon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
State District Judge Henry Quintero will decide whether to accept the plea.
Police say Cantone and his brother were spotted December 20th, 2005, on the store’s surveillance cameras leaving with video games they allegedly shoplifted.
Employees brought them back inside, where a confrontation began. Police allege Vincent Cantone then opened fire with a handgun.
