WWE Suspends Wrestlers, Local El Pasoan Among Them

EL PASO, TX. – World Wrestling Entertainment has suspended ten of its wrestlers for allegedly violating a policy that tests for steroids and other drugs, among them a popular wrestler from El Paso.

That wrestler is none other than Chavo Guerrero, the nephew of former wrestler Eddie Guerrero, who died nearly two years ago from heart failure. Eddie Guerrero, by the way, is also mentioned in the report as being linked to illegal steroid sales in the past. The 36-year-old Chavo Guerrero was suspended based on information from the Albany County, New York Prosecutor’s office, which has been investigating illegal steroid sales.

Chavo Guerrero faces a 30-day suspension without pay fromWWE for this first offense. If he tests positive a second time, he will face a 60-day suspension. This all comes in the wake of the death ofWWE wrestler Chris Benoit, who killed his wife and child before hanging himself in June. Authorities found steroids in Benoit’s home.

Chavo Guerrero and Benoit were good friends. WWE, which has 160 wrestlers, tests them four times per year. One local wrestling expert tells us how he thinks El Pasoans will react to Chavo Guerrero’s suspension for steroids.

“The guy has made this mistake, he’s going to admit he made the mistake and he’s going to take his time off because he’s going to be suspended by the WWE, but the fans will cheer for him again because he’s from El Paso andI think El Paso will forgive him,” says Mando Medina, a local wrestling expert.
