Take Care Of Texas Website Gets Updated
AUSTIN, TX. – The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has updated its Take Care of Texaswebsite, newly unveiled on Monday to include several new features.
An interactive children’s page and radio public service announcements are among the site’s new additions, launched by the program which debuted in April of 2007. The program offers Texans household tips for each area of their home on ways to save money and reduce their ‘carbon footprint’ on the environment.
Chairman of the TCEQ, Buddy Garcia said, “The internet has proven to be a very valuable resource in our effort to educate Texans about individual responsibility. Our Take Care of Texas site provides the tools needed to accomplish this important effort.” Using interactive games and two interactive Blue Lacy dogs, River and Sky, kids learn about the environment on the kid’s web page at www.takecareoftexas.org.
“Our children will be our future’s greatest environmental stewards. By providing fun and interactive educational opportunities such as this, a child can begin to understand the importance of preserving our natural resources,” said Commissioner Larry Soward.
Those who visit the site can also receive a free Take Care of Texas bumper sticker when they pledge to make lifestyle changes to help improve air and water quality, conserving resources and reducing waste. The pledge form, with its built0in calculator, can help visitors estimate the savings on household water, energy and money when they follow the steps suggested on the site.
Also announced was the Take Care of Texas Minute, a radio public service announcement campaign to air on stations across Texas. More than 200 radiostations have agreed to run the 60-second weekly program, available in both English and Spanish on the website.
