Bullet-And-Stab-Proof Vests Donated To El Paso K-9’s
EL PASO, TX.- Dog owners have mixed opinions when it comes to dressing their pups. El Paso Sheriffs now clothe two of their K-9’s, but not to make a fashion statement. They’ve just received bullet-proof vests from a non-profit group calledVEST’N P.D.P.
The name is a quick way of saying, “investing in police dog protection.”K-9’s ‘Quattro’ and ‘Brix’ are the lucky recipients of six, “point blank armor” vests and their deputy handlers couldn’t be happier. The company donating the vests was created in 2002 to raise funds for K-9 bullet-and-stab-proof vests. Each vest costs $695 dollars. K-9 “Quattro” named by his original trainer after the Audi Quattro is a sable, German Shepherd, trained in the Netherlands.
He holds a SchutzundII title, which isa German Sporting Dog title earned by mastering three phases of training: 1. Obedience 2. Tracking 3. Handler protection and criminal apprehension. Quattro is also trained in narcotics detection. His handler is Deputy Tellez.
K-9 “Brix” was originally named by the U.S. Border Patrol. He is a sable German Shepherd and was donated to by the Border Patrol in 2004. He is trained in human scent, is a tracking dog assigned to the sheriff’s office Search and Rescue team. His handler is Deputy Castillo.
Two vests are being donated to the Anthony, Texas Police Department and two to the Sunland Park, New Mexico Police Department. The K-9’s for Anthony, Texas police department are”Rugby” and “Linda”. The K-9’s for Sunland Park New Mexico Police Department include”Fox” and “Kondor”.
