Club Gets Grant For Solar Power Project
FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) – The Farmington Boys and Girls Club hopes to power all of its electrical needs with solar panels.
And club leaders hope to do that with the help of a $200,000 grant from the governor’s office. Though the grant would cover only a fourth of the total project, club officials say it’s a start. The club is planning to see if it makes sense to start placing solar panels immediately or wait until it has enough money to complete the entire $800,000 project.
The club’s president says the more money the club can spend on after-school activities rather than energy costs, the better. The club spends about $65,000 a year on utilities. Farmington’s club is one of a small but growing number of community organizations and residents interested in green power.
