Man Arrested For 8th DUI Already Awaiting Sentencing For Previous Offenses

DONA ANA COUNTY, NM – A man arrested by Sheriffs’ deputies for a DUI offense is already awaiting trial for several other DUI incidents.

David Torres, of 3449 South Highway 28, was arrested after deputies responded to a call of children chasing each other with knives at the 3500 block of Paroquia Street.

Sheriffs’ Officials tell ABC-7 deputies were already at the residence when Torres pulled into the driveway of the residence in his white Ford F-150. When Torres stepped out of the truck, he was instantly recognized by one of the deputies as someone he supervised while he was an adult probation officer, they add.

“I remember you, you use to supervise me,” said Torres when he recognized his former probation officer. Deputies immediately noticed and observed Torres’ slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes. He also smelled like alcohol, they said.

Torres failed a standard field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI. A search warrant had to be obtained after he refused to submit himself to a chemical test.

He was then charged with driving under the influence and driving with a revoked driver’s license. Itwas his eigth DUI offense.

According to officials, Torres’ was already awaiting sentencing for past DUI offenses. His DUI record dates back to April of 1986, when he was arrested for driving under the influence in El Paso.
