Mosquito Worries At Local Park Where Kids Play

EL PASO, TX. – A little league football team is getting eaten alive on the field, but not by another team!

With three West Nile Virus deaths in El Paso this season, parents are askingABC-7 for help. It’s a developing story from Marion Manor Park in El Paso’s Lower Valley. Withlittle kids playing football, one might think of cuts and bruises, but dozens of bug bites? That’s the case at Marion Manor Park.

And it seems there is no stopping the mosquitoes offensive line! They might be covered up with pads and helmets, but it’s still not enough to protect the little leaguers from a third team on the field. Any piece of skin that’s exposed is a prime target. Arms, legsand even lips. Over the past few weeks, mosquitoes have been breeding in the canals that surroundthe park. The problem is overwhelming for players and the fans.

The situation is so bad,it’s made repellent the most important piece of equipment! Even still, some of these kids will leave practice with 20 or 30 bites just on their legs! ABC-7spoke with the City of El Paso and the health district. The problem stems from property owned by the Ysleta School District. BothYISD and Vector Control said they would address the problem immediately.

In fact, fogging trucks were circling the park just before practice got underway. In the meantime, the battle continues. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department says if residents have any type of a problem at the parkwith mosquitoes around childrenjust call City Hall.
