Police Release Dash-Cam Video Of Motorcyclist Killed Wednesday
EL PASO, TX. – The El Paso Police Department responds to accusations that the pursuit of one of its officers led to the death of a motorcyclist earlyWednesday morning.
In the police video,Cesar Muelais seenstopped at a red light on Mesa street with the lights of the patrol unit clearly on. The officer from theDWI task force was trying to pull him over for allegedly speeding, 50 in a 40 mile per hour zone.
But Muela, who appears to be pulling over, speeds away. The officer having already got the license plate number decides to call off the pursuit as Muela speeds away. El Paso Police Chief Richard Wiles points out the officer even turned off his lights. As the officer proceeds down Mesa at a safe speed, he eventually comes up on the fatal accident.
Muela hit a Volkswagen and was catapulted into a rock wall, killing him. Chief Wiles said the reason he came forward with the video was because of accusations from Muela’s family.
