2 Shot In Carjack; Suspect Killed After Chase, Officer Shooting
DALLAS, TX.(AP) – U.S. 75 has reopened to traffic in both directions, but the investigation continues into a bloody carjacking.
Three people, including a police officer, are hospitalized and a suspected gunman is dead after a carjacking and chase. Dallas police Sgt. Gil Cerda says the suspect fatally shot himself as police approached at the end of the chase. The chase ended on U.S. 75 southbound near Loop 12 about 4 a.m., prompting police to close the busy freeway in both directions for about 2 hours.
Northbound lanes were reopened about 6:30 a.m., while southbound lanes reopened about 7 a.m. Garland police spokesman Joe Harn says the episode began when a man shot two people and stole their car at a northeast Dallas intersection. Cerda says one of the victims is hospitalized in critical condition, while the other is hospitalized in stable condition.
Harn says the suspect drove into nearby Garland, where police began their pursuit. Harn says one Garland officer was shot in the leg while laying down a spike strip. No identities have been revealed.
