Expo Aims At Recruiting Women For Law Enforcement Agencies

EL PASO, TX – Local law enforcement officials are reaching out to more women in efforts to increase recruiting numbers.

The first annual “Women in Law Enforcement Expo” was held Saturday at the El Paso Coliseumin an effort to fight the stigma that there is not enough women fighting crime.

“Withtraining and determination any female will do fine in law enforcement,” said Lynda Williams, a Special Agent with the FBI.

Women agents from a total of 13 law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, the El Paso Police Department and the fire department, were on hand at the El Paso Coliseum to help recruit women.

Diana Kirk, Chief of Staff with the EPPD, tells ABC-7 lack of women in law enforcement agencies is not just an issue in El Paso – it is a problem all throughout the U.S.

Organizers at the expo said they had an excellent turnout of women and many seemed to be up to the challenges that come with a career in law enforcement.
