UPDATE: Some Flights Allowed To Resume Within Radius
MEMPHIS, TN. (AP) – The FAA has allowed flights to resume at airports inside a 250-mile radius served by a regional air traffic control center in Memphis, Tennessee.
Air-traffic control centers in adjacent regions handled flights that were already in the air when the communications problem in Memphis was discovered, and being fixed. The Federal Aviation Administration action was having a ripple effect in several airports.
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport reported some delays and nearly 50 flights canceled, but service was getting back to normal by late afternoon. In Nashville, 12 Northwest Airlines flights were diverted, and 25 to 30 departures had been delayed a couple of hours.
Disruptions affecting fewer flights were reported at airports in: St. Louis; Miami; Pittsburgh; Louisville, Kentucky; and Kansas City.
