The Power Of Pink Display Helps Raise Awareness Of Cancer Detection
EL PASO, TX. – It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes an entire community to reach out to the victims of breast cancer.
That’s why local hospitals and companies are putting competition aside and joining forces to spread the word about breast cancer education. Friday,ABC-7’s own Estela Casaswas invited to kick off the annual “Power of Pink” Project. Five of El Paso’s major hospitals reported 388 new cases in 2006. 56 of those women got a free makeover and a portrait for the “Power of Pink” display.
“The month of October is breast cancer awareness month and so we try to go through all different types of media to get through to people to take care of themselves and look for all kind of lumps and to get mammograms,” said Dr. Irene Chiucchini.”I just happened to be in the detection center with another person getting her test done and whileI was there and somebody came out and said you have to come in and get your mammogram done because we have this new camera and you need to come in and be our test and whenI went in and got the test done that is when they found my cancer,” added Dr. Chiucchini.
