City Council Approves Study For Country Club Road Expansion

EL PASO, TX. – City Council voted to approve a traffic study that will determine if some major changes are needed by two major upper valley streets.

Recently, city council proposed turning Country Club Road from a two-lane street to a four-lane street. However, Eminent Domain might have to be used to take properties next to the road for the lanes to be added.

“In two years, we are going to have to dig up the entire length of country club and replace a sewer lane, and so, when we replace that road, the question is: ‘do we replace it with a two-lane road, which we have right now, a three-lane road, maybe even a five lane road,” said City Council member Beto O’Rourke.

Redd Road is also under consideration for major changes. It currently ends at the intersection with Montoya street, but a proposed plan would extend it all the way to Duckett road. A bridge over the Rio Grande would have to be built if the plan is approved. The study is expected to take two years.
