Reports Of Recent Border Incursions In Hudspeth Not True

EL PASO, TX. – Fresh reports of a new incursion along the border in Hudspeth County are generating a lot of buzz on the Internet.

But Thursday, local and federal agencies tellABC-7 those reports arejust not true. The story was written about a border incursion that happened about a year ago. But for some reason, it ended up on several online news sites Wednesday.

The incident allegedly happened at Neely’s Crossing just south of Sierra Blanca;a placeall too familiar with trouble. The alleged incident was supposed to have involved drug smugglers crossing into theU.S. with Humvees outfitted with machine guns.

The story quoted a special agent with the FBI’s El Paso field office and the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Department. Officials from both agencies said the incident the article was talking about happened in January of 2006, asABC-7 reported at the time.

But they say no such incident happened this week on the border. “No it’s not true. The report that came out is a report that came out the day after January 23, 2006. The report’s accurate, but it’s a year and 9 months re-printed,” said Sgt. Robert Wilson of the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s office.

Wilson says he’s gotten calls about this story from reporters as far away as Houston and Mexico City. He says he told them the same thing he toldABC-7,that it just didn’t happen this week.
