Man Dies In Rollover Crash
EL PASO — Emergency crews worked into the night to investigate the latest in a series of fatal traffic incidents in the area.
Investigators with the El Paso Police Department released the identity of the man killed in a rollover crash that happened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night near the Eastlake Blvd exit of I-10.
They said 26-year-old Evelyn Lopez was driving eastbound on I-10 in a 2004 Kia Sorrento with 27-year-old Jose Lopez and a 3-year-old boy. After driving onto a dirt shoulder, Lopez lost control of the SUV and rolled the vehicle over.
Evelyn and the 3-year-old were restrained with seatbelt and car seat respectively. Jose Lopez was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially thrown from the vehicle and died on the scene from his injuries. Evelyn and the toddler were taken to R.E. Thomason Hospital for examination.
Officials said although the investigation is ongoing, they do not believe speed nor alchohol were factors contributing to the crash.
Police are urging the public to use caution on the roadways. “It has been a bad week,” said Ofc. Chris Mears, a police department spokesman. “We’ve had five fatal traffic incidents in the lastseveral days, so it’s been very deadly on the roads.”
