LAS CRUCES — The man accused of a shooting and killing his mother, a New Mexico state police officer was indicted by a grand jury Thursday.
25-year-old Justin Quintana was indicted Thursday on charges of murder, aggravated burglary and larceny of a weapon stemming from an incident on December 13 in which prosecutors allege Quintana shot and killed his mother, Susan Kuchma.
Quintana contends that the shooting was an accident after the gun, which belonged to his mother, slipped and went off.
Court documents indicate that Quintana, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, stole the gun and later used it.
He remains in jail, held without bond, at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
