LAS CRUCES– A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend for not taking him to see his parole officer.
25-year-old Adrian Mascorro faces a total of seven charges, including aggravated battery and false imprisonment. The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Stephanie Michel.
Investigators say Mascorro wanted Michel to drive him to see his parole officer. According to them, when Michel refused to drive him Mascorro punched kicked and choked her in front of their 19-month-old baby.
Michel told authorities thatMascorro even pulled the phone line from the wall in Michel’s home to keep her from calling police.
Not wanting to risk her life in further danger, Michel conceded to driving Mascorro to the appointment.
On the way, Michel spotted a sheriff’s deputy, at which point she jumped from the vehicle to get help.
She desribed what happened and Mascorro was soon arrested and taken to the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
He was booked on several charges including aggravated battery, false imprisonment and bribery for the alleged attack.
Officials with the sheriff’s department were surprised at Mascorro’s determination to meet with his probation officers, but said he went about it in the wrong way.
“He was trying to do the right thing, he admits that he violated his probation. He asked his girlfriend for a ride, but it turned into an explosive situation. She stated her thoughts at that time were that she was going to die and she realized the only way she was going to get out of the situation was to take him to the parole office,” said Bo Nevarez of the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s office.
Mascorrois beingheld under a $55,000 bond and faces up to 11 years in prison if convicted.
