1 Person Killed In Northeast El Paso Collision

EL PASO — El Paso police officers are investigating a fatal crash on the Northeast side of town.

Officers were called out to the 8600 block of Edge of Texas around 6:20 a.m.Two cars were involved in the crash and one person has died, police said.

Investigators said a woman driving an Escort wagon south on U.S. Hwy 54 failed to yield when making a left-hand turn in front of an oncoming pickup. They said the force of the collision was such that even the roof frame of the wagon was bent.

The passenger in that station wagon, a man, was killed on the scene. An 11-year-old girl riding as a passenger received only minor injuries. Officials said the group in the car was from Kansas. The 25-year-old man driving the pickup truck also had only minor injuries.

EPPD Spokesman Javier Sambrano cautioned drivers about yielding rights-of-way on any roadway.

“[Drivers] really have to use good judgment when proceed[ing] at an intersection, especially anything such as a major highway such as the Patriot Freeway, Montana Avenue, Alameda, Socorro, which are actual highways,” Sambrano said.

Investigators did not release information on citing the driver of the station wagon.
