Autumn Sam: Get Lost Boo Birds!
Take a look at the statistics of a “certain” UTEP Miner after Wednesday’s 90-79 win over Southern Mississippi.
This player:
Shot 75% from the field Made 83% of his free throws Was the team’s 2nd leading rebounder Had a positive steal/turnover ratio Scored in double digits.
That’s a very productive — even impressive — stat line by any standard.
So you can imagine the shock and disappointment I felt when I heard Miner fans booing this player on two occasions when he checked into Wednesday night’s game.
I would like to tell all of the spectators who booed Victor Ramalho during the secondhalf of the game … to GET LOST!!!
Even if Ramalho had played poorly, fans should NEVER boo a home team player.
Freshman post-player, Claude Britten came off of the bench and scored 6 consecutive points to help theMiners regain the lead, but when Ramalho checked into the game for Britten… The senior was greeted by boosfrom all around the arena … not just the student section.
Does Ramalho make mistakes… Yes.Is Ramalho the strongest, most dominant post player in the conference … not even close.
But the last time I checked, Victor Ramalho was 6’9, weighs 255 lbs, and wears a UTEP uniform.
Trust me when I tell you, the guard-heavy Miners need his size and presence this year on the block.
