StormTRACK Coverage: Winter Blast Likely By Saturday
EL PASO — El Paso and Hudspethcounties areis under a snow advisory which will remainin effect through tomorrow morning.In Southern New Mexico, a heavy snow warning has been issued, with Las Cruces,Alamogordo and Deminginline to receive up to six inches of snow.
The inclement storm system is slow moving but should clear bySunday, but the threat of winter weather hazards hasprompted safety alerts from emergencypersonnel.
Crews warn that the very young, the elderly and the infirm tend to be proneto cold related injuries.Officials urgecaretakers to keep an eye on children, and to regularly check on elderly relatives or neighbors.
It is also recommended that all pets and plants are brought inside.
Additionally, fire crews urge residents to keep an eye on heating equipment. Never leave children alone in the room where a space heater is running.
Care should be taken not to overload electrical circuits, and aworking smokedetector should be in stalledin every room.
