County Reports Record-Setting Early Voting

EL PASO — More residents have cast ballots in the last six days of early voting than during the entire two week early voting period in 2000.
Javier Chacon, who oversees the County Election Department, says this is why his office needs to rent 100 touch screen voting machines for the primary election, on March 4th.
Chacon says as of the end of voting Saturday, 23,794 voted in the Democratic primary and 4,406 cast ballots in the Republican primary.
Chacon didn’t provide the final count of votes cast during early voting in the 2000 election, but he said both tallies for this year’s primary election have already far surpassed 2000’s numbers.
The County Commissioners Court approved the rental of the 100 extra voting machines. Early voting ends this Friday, February 29th.
