Houston Doctors Repair Tear In Tejano Music Star’s Lung
HOUSTON (AP) – More than a week after Tejano music star Emilio Navaira was critically injured in a bus accident, doctors at a Houston hospital repaired a rupture in his right lung.
Dr. Alan M Cohen, an interventional radiologist at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, successfully treated a pseudoaneurysm in Navaira’s lung Monday, hospital spokeswoman Alejandra Rodriguez said.
Some pseudoaneuryms – or contained ruptures in an arterial wall – resolve on their own, while others require repair to prevent hemorrhage.
Doctors cautioned that Navaira remains in critical condition, and that his recovery will be slow.
The 45-year-old singer was behind the wheel of his tour bus on March 23 when it slammed into a collection of freeway barrels that mark the interchange of Interstate 610 and U.S. Highway 59 in Bellaire, a southwest Houston enclave.
