West EP Big Rig Wreck Kills One

EL PASO, Tx – El Paso Police say a teen was killed in an early-Saturday morningtractor trailerwreck on I-10 West.

The wreck happenedon Interstate 10 West, at Mesa.Police say 19 year old Juan Vislarlost control of his Mitsubishi Montero, and sideswiped another vehicle. The impact caused the Mitsubishi to break through the wire barrier separating I-10, and veer into oncoming traffic. Authorities say the Mitsubishi clipped the left front side of the big rig, ripping open its fuel tank and causing it to roll over.

Police say Vislar was wearing a seatbelt, but he died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle he sideswiped was unhurt.The driver of the big rig was treated at Las Palmas Medical Center for neck and back pain.

TxDot crews remained on the scene for several hours to remove the vehicles and clean up the spilled fuel.

This is the 15th traffic fatality in the city compared with 17 at this same time last year.
