Socorro’s 19 Charter Amendments Passed; Mayor Lopez Re-Elected
SOCORRO — Mayor Trini Lopez will retain his seat as he easily defeated his rival Gina Cordero, receiving 62% of the vote.
Lopez has recently made headlines as he helped the victims of a massive fire that left eight families homeless several months ago. Recently, he also helped repair the roof of an elderly woman’s house. It was blown off as a result of strong wind gusts.
In addition to re-electing Lopez to another term, residents of Socorro also approved all 19 of the city’s charter amendments.
Sergio Cox was elected Alderman at Large with 59% of the vote.
Jesus “Chuy” Hern won the city’s Alderman No.1 seat with 54% of the vote compared to Josie Trillo’s 35% of the vote.
The race for city Alderman No. 2 will go to a run-off election. Both Tommy Faulkner and Mary E. Perez received 36% of the vote.
Jose Hernandez won the seat for Alderman No.3 with 54% of the vote over Mary B. Garcia.
Jesus Gandar won the seat for Alderman No.3 with 3% of the vote over Al Gutierrez.
