CBP Officers Seize 31 Lbs. Of Cocaine At Bridge

EL PASO, Texas — U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized close to $382,000 worth of cocaine this past weekend, CBP officials said.

Officials said CBP officers at the Bridge of Americas seized a total of about 31 pounds of cocaine in two separate seizures.

The first seizure of about ten pounds was discovered in the dashboard compartment of a Nissan Altima Saturday evening. The driver, 37-year-old Rebecca Avalos De Ramos, was arrested by police.

The other seize involved 30-year-old Alejandro Ortiz, who officials said carried 18 pounds from a false compartment in the frame rails of a Dodge Ram pickup. Further inspection of Ortiz’s vehicle was conducted when he displayed signs of being nervous and had nothing to declare. He was arrested by ICE special agents, officials said.
