Council Approves Left Lane Restrictions For Semi-Trucks
EL PASO — On Tuesday City Council unanimously approved a resolution regarding left lane restrictions on I-10 for semi-trucks.
Themeasure still has to be approved by the Texas Department of Transportation to take effect. If approved, road signs indicating the restrictions could go upwithin 90 days.
Therestrictionbans big trucks from the left lane of I-10 all the way from North Mesa to Zaragoza.
Some city representatives see the move as one that could reduce traffic accidents. City Representative Susie Byrd said when Houston implemented a similar ban, the cityhad a 68 percent reduction in road crashes.
