Teen Refuses To Say Where Polygamist Sect Baby Is

SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) – A teenage member of a polygamist sect is refusing a judge’s order to tell where her baby is – defying Texas officials as they seek to collect a DNA sample to identify the father and determine if he’s an adult.

Texas Child Protective Services believes she was married to an adult male in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when she was 14, attorney John Dolezal said in the Nov. 14 motion requesting a court order.

But a hearing Tuesday was halted when the girl refused to answer both the judge and CPS attorneys when they asked where the baby is.

She said only that the baby is in another state.

Attorneys for both sides were meeting in the judge’s chambers Tuesday afternoon to determine what to do next.
