Marissa Monody

Marissa Monroy is happy to be back home. She was born and raised in the Sun City. During her senior year at Silva Magnet High School, she interned at KDBC-Channel 4 and immediately caught the journalism bug.

After graduating from high school, Marissa traded in her cowboy boots for snow boots while studying at the University of Notre Dame. When she wasn’t busy cheering on the Fighting’ Irish, she helped launch the school’s first television news show and spent one semester interviewing professional basketball players and coaches when she worked for the Washington Wizards basketball team in Washington D.C. She also interned at KTSM-Channel 9 after her first summer back from college.

Marissa continued her education by pursuing her Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Southern California. While attending graduate school, she worked as the multimedia reporter for Pop + Politics, covering the diverse city of Los Angeles. Marissa also recently worked for the Associated Press Television News where she had the opportunity to produce and report from the White House, the Pentagon and Capitol Hill.

During her spare time, she enjoys sports, playing the piano, and listening and dancing to music – a pastime handed down to her by her late father, Ivan. She is looking forward to spending time with her mother, Linda, a middle school teacher, and her sister, Amanda, who is completing her Accounting degree at the University of Texas at El Paso.

Marissa is excited to join the KVIA news team. If you have a story idea, you can contacther at mmonroy.kvia@gmail.com.
