Riot Continues At Reeves County Detention Center

A massive riot continues at the Reeves County Detention Center in Pecos, TX, about 200 miles east of El Paso.

As of early Sunday afternoon, guards do not have the situation under control, according to prison officials.

Inmates at the prison began rioting Saturday, lighting fires both inside and outside the facility.

Prison officials said the inmates are upset over the alleged lack of medical treatment a prisoner received.

Officials told ABC-7 the fires were still burning as of Sunday morning and that the inmates had congregated in the prison yard, refusing to move indoors.

Since the riot began, three prisoners had been transported to hospitals, but officials do not know the extent of their injuries.

This not the first riot at the facility. According to a Reeves County Sheriff Dispatcher, prisoners there rioted about a month and a half ago, expressing similar frustration over the facility’s medical treatment.

The fiancee of one of the inmates said that medical workers at the prison were neglecting the prisoners.
