UPDATE: Precinct 6 Constable Was Acquitted Of Drug Charges
EL PASO — Precinct 6 Constable Jesus “Gus” Ramirez was apparently arrested in 1995 and pleaded no contest on charges he possessed cocaine several years ago, according to court documents obtained by the ABC-7 I-Team.
ABC-7 spoke with Ramirez over the phone Monday night, and Ramirez said the charges against him were dismissed.
Chaves County officials confirmed that Ramirez’s records show he was acquitted of the charges, though they were not able to explain why.
County officials reviewed the documents in executive session during Monday’s meeting, but no decision was made as to what that means about Ramirez’s employment with the county.
“You know what that indicates to me? We’re not doing enough public vetting as a community… There are some of these races that get all the attention and some that get no public scrutiny,” said County Commissioner Veronica Escobar.
