Sheriff’s Office Launch Criminal Investigation Into Constable Shooting

EL PASO — Investigators with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office have launched a criminalinvestigation into a shooting last month that involved a Precinct Six Constable Deputy.

Now, they are asking any witnesses to come forward with new information that might help their investigation.

The shooting happened last month near Hanks High School in east El Paso and involved Deputy Constable Mario Ramos.

Sheriff’s officials said Ramoswas pursuing suspect Juan Ortegon near Montwood and Lee Adler.According to an incident report, Ortegon attacked Ramos after he pulled over.

Ramos later shot Ortegon, who was released from Thomason Hospital and charged with Assault on a Public Servant. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released from jail August 25th.

Ramos was placed on paid-administrative leave. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 546-2280.
