Employees At Goodwill Store Remember Slain Co-Worker
EL PASO, Texas — Employees at the Goodwill store off Wedgewood and McRae said work will never be the same without Erica Gutierrez, who was shot and killed in Juarez on June 17 along with her husband and stepfather.
The radio she always turned on in the morning to cheer people up sits still now. Her co-workers say they won’t turn it on again.
Erica was an assistant manager with the store for a year and a half, and in that time she made a lot of friends.
Her co-workers say she was outgoing, hard-working and got along with everybody. They said she loved dancing and often talked about how important her grandmother was in her life. Employees at the Goodwill store told ABC-7 they can’t believe their friend is gone.
“At first we couldn’t believe it, now we know it’s true, all her coworkers are sad. We’re taking it day by day,” said Goodwill manager Maria Lopez.
“(She was) like a big sister to me. If I had a problem, I’d go to her and she’d tell me, don’t worry, life is short, be happy,” said Goodwill clerk Natalie Velasquez.
