Cabinet Officials Unveil New Strategy For War On Drugs
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -A new federal counter-narcotics strategy was unveiled Friday.
Attorney General Eric Holder, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and other officials were in Albuquerque on Friday discussing border security. The announcement was part of President Obama’s administration strategy for fighting the war on drugs in the Southwest.
“It’s not the just border that’s at risk here…every community, every state in this country is experiencing the outreach of the drug traffickers,” said Border Czar Alan Bersin.
The primary focus of the plan is collaboration and the importance of information sharing between American law enforcement agencies, both local and federal.
Officialsalso applauded the level of cooperation between American and Mexican agencies and called for continued close collaboration.
Napolitanosaid more agents on the border doing southbound searches and vehicle weight checks also factor into the new plan.
Later on Friday, she swore in her new Homeland Security Advisory Council, a group of law enforcement experts across the country who will advise the Homeland Security Secretary.
