Last Day Of Sotomayor Hearing
WASHINGTON (AP) – Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor returns for a third and last day of questioning by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
So far, she’s avoided saying much on a range of hot-button issues, including guns and abortion. Her unwillingness to be pinned down on almost any topic has frustrated even some friendly Democrats.
But Republicans concede that Sotomayor hasn’t committed a major misstep that would derail her nomination to be the first Hispanic and third woman to serve on the high court.
Once she finishes testifying, Republicans plan to call a firefighter behind a reverse discrimination case from New Haven, Conn. His complaint was later rejected by Sotomayor and two other appeals court judges. The Supreme Court overturned that ruling late last month.
The case gives the GOP another chance to portray Sotomayor as a judge who lets bias dictate the outcome of a case.
