Stop Near Tyler Yields $60,000 In Drug Cash

TYLER, Texas (AP) – A traffic stop in the Tyler area led to the arrest of two brothers and the seizure of $60,000 in alleged drug money.

Smith County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Bobby Garmon says a deputy stopped a westbound truck on Interstate 20 after witnessing a possible traffic violation.

Garmon told the Tyler Morning Telegraph that the cash was in a sealed plastic container in a hidden compartment of the sleeper cab.

Garmon described the funds as “drug money” and said a narcotics-sniffing dog helped locate the cash during Monday night’s stop.

Garmon said the brothers, from Florida, were in custody facing money laundering charges. Names of the pair and further details on them were not immediately released.
