Woman Who Says She Is Former Homosexual Speaks At Council
EL PASO, Texas — Several El Pasoans spoke at City Council Tuesday morning on the city’s newly adopted policy of providing benefits for unmarried partners of city employees.
Local doctor Becky Personette was one of two speakers who spoke out against the policy during the public comment portion of the meeting.
She cited various studies she said showed homosexuality was not genetically determined.
“I suffered with homosexual tendency myself for over 25 years…Over five years ago I was able to deal with those issues and am now fully heterosexual,” Personette said.
She asked City Council to reconsider their policy and “push for high family standards in El Paso.”
“I’m asking if you would reconsider the proposal you have made to extend our financial and tax dollars to those who are living lifestyles the majority of us, by a poll that was taken, are not for.”
The speaker after Personette was a man whosaid that heused to bea homosexual but is undergoing treatment and therapy to deal with same-sex attraction.
Local activist Lisa Turner spoke in response to the claims that a person could change his or her sexual orientation. “You just heard, ‘I used to be gay, now I’m straight.’ Well, what that means is you’re bisexual, you just can’t make up your mind.”
Turner also questioned the data Personette cited. “I can take any set of numbers you want and make them say what I want.”
