Noise From New Club Disturbs Some Canutillo Residents
by ABC-7 Reporter Darren Hunt
CANUTILLO, Texas — Less than six months ago, Canutillo residents ran an unwanted strip club out of the county with a new ordinance. But now on the same property, there’s a new problem: noise coming from the new Malibu Club and Disco on Talbot Road.
The club is right across the street from where the former Pegasus Gentleman’s Club was located in the middle of a Canutillo neighborhood.
Canutillo resident Sara Garcia went to Monday’s Commissioners Court meeting seeking some assistance.
“For the Canutillo community, nothing has changed. The quality of life is still being negatively impacted,” she said.
Garcia said since the new club opened about a month ago, the noise level at times has been “overbearingly loud.”
The owner of the club, Carlos Rodriguez, would not comment to ABC-7 or allow cameras inside the club to shoot video. But the club is about 12,000 square feet and has a concert stage set up with large speakers. The back of the club is about 50 yards away from a Canutillo neighborhood.
Canutillo resident Angelica Mandrigal said the neighborhood used to be quiet but that is not the case any more. “Oh God, it’s very noisy, my kids get scared and they can’t go to sleep, or me and my husband…so it’s really bothering us.”
And she has found other problems as well. “We are having strange people in the neighborhood, so it’s kind of scary,” Mandrigal said.
Garcia said the nuisance hasn’t gone away even after Pegasus moved out. “Just because they changed names doesn’t mean anything. They’re still disturbing the peace,” she said.
Canutillo residents are also complaining about noise coming from Grace Gardens, a party hall on Westside Drive.
The problem is, like previously for sexually-oriented businesses, there are no ordinances to regulate noise in the county.
