Writer For The Oklahoman Calls El Paso ‘Mickey Mouse Town’

The 2009 Brut Sun Bowl may be over but Berry Tramel, writer for The Oklahoman, is still talking about El Paso, this time calling it a “Mickey Mouse town.”

Tramel recently answered readers’ emails about the Sun Bowl and the Oklahoma Sooners, the first of which called Tramel out about some of his comments.

“As we celebrated the victory after the game at my brother’s house, we tuned into the local news for highlights,” the e-mail stated. “After that, you made the news as they reported what you wrote about the Sun City. How El Paso is not up to your uppity standards, how you can’t wait to leave and never want to return. Did you and Tiger Woods try to pick up the El Paso chicks and had no luck? Cheap shot, I apologize. But come on Berry, if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. You turned a satisfying OU victory sour by what I saw on local El Paso news.”

Tramel’s response was,”Let me get this straight. I wrote a blog the morning of the Sun Bowl. And if the big news in El Paso on the day of the game is what some out-of-towner blogs about it, it’s a Mickey Mouse town.”
