Las Cruces Police ID Man Shot By Police

Las Cruces Police investigators have released the identity of the man that was shot by Las Cruces Police on Sunday.

Theman is identified as Anthony Medrano, 22, of Las Cruces. Officers responded to the 3000 block of Petunia to arrest Medrano for domestic battery. When officers attempted to make contact with Medrano, he armed himself with a knife and bat, police officials said.

Officers gave numerous verbal commands for Medrano to drop the weapons. Medrano refused to comply and continued to close distance on the officers and the officers fired their weapons to defend themselves, police said.

The multi- agency investigation team is continuing to investigate the incident.
