Local Soccer Coach Arrested On Solicitation Of Minor Charge
By ABC-7 Reporter Daniel Marin
EL PASO, Texas – The San Elizario High School Girl’s soccer team practiced without their coach Thursday afternoon. That’s because Juan Romero, 48, was arrested the day before at school. The charge: sending sexually explicit text messages to a pre-teen girl.
The news of Romero’s arrest spread quickly on campus.
“I heard about it during 5th period,” said one student. “I didn’t want to believe it.”
El Paso Police say Romero’s accuser isn’t one of the girls on his San Elizario team, rather a player on his independent youth soccer league team in El Paso. A girl of only 12 years old.
The ABC-7 I-Team got a hold of the police affidavit. It says the messages were sent last September 9th around 10:30 p.m. Police say in one of the texts, Romero told the girl he becomes aroused “especially when it’s two women.” Police say he then went on to explain what he likes to see women do to one another.
The I-Team was also able to track down Romero’s home address in East El Paso. A porch light went on and then off, but no one answered the door.
Juan Romero was released on a $2,500 bond Wednesday evening. Police say the 12-year-old’s parents were the ones who discovered the text messages and called police.
