2 Arrested After False Kidnapping Report

EL PASO — Police arrested two Northeast residents after a strange turn of events that allegedly involved a fake kidnapping report.

Lorraine Clark, 43, of the 5700 block of Kensington; and Grant Rutledge, 20, of the 4200 block of Dyer, were arrested at about 10:30 a.m. Friday.

According to police officials, Clark called police and said she had been kidnapped and was being held for a ransom. Police units from both Northeast and the East Side were called out to respond to the call.

They were able to locate Clark — along with Rutledge — in the 3600 block of Keltner. Police officials saidClark was safe and an investigation revealed she had not been kidnapped.

However, Clark was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, according to police officials. Police officials said Rutledge was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Clark was charged with False Reporting.
